Music Department Fall Concert 2019

On October 23rd at 6:30pm, the HWSS theatre was crowded and noisy —each of the parents excited to watch their child’s first performance at the Fall Concert. The clamorous crowd soon calmed down as the choir and conductor took stand on the stage. Shortly after, the theatre was filled with the warm melodies of pieces like “A Million Dreams” which was featured in the movie “The Greatest Showman”. After the fantastic performances by the Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz ensembles, the audience clapped their hands and cheered for the performers and their amazing performances.

In the next two and a half hours, the school’s Junior and Senior Jazz Bands, String Orchestra, Beginning, Junior and Senior Concert Band took centre stage. Each of the ensembles captivated the theatre with songs like “The Pit and the Pendulum” that was inspired by gothic writer Edgar Alan Poe and his classic stories. The piece “Pearl Harbor” was also played and made goosebumps creep-up the audience’s arms as they were left stunned by the symphony of beautiful dynamics and notes. The rhythmical color of Jazz Band, quaint melodies of the String Orchestra and the lively sound of the vocal ensembles remained in the mind of the audience even when the concert ended. A small victory was also earned among the Beginning Band Students as after only 3 months of playing, the new students will advance to the higher-level ensembles to continue to grow as budding musicians. In all, the HWSS Fall Concert was extremely successful and gave the audience something to think about until the next concert at HWSS — Christmas Café.
