Album of the MonthThe Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story by Jaden Smith

On November 17, 2018, Jaden Smith’s 11 track, no feature project was released. Though this isn’t a direct sequel to the album he released last year, SYRE, it still exists within the series. Similar to the artistic and reflective mood of SYRE, The Sunset Tapes deliver another unique journey in which Smith explores his creative mind and the world around him.

Although I believe it is important to listen to every album in order the first time you hear it, when it comes to Jaden Smith’s music, listening to the tracks in order is a must. In my opinion, Jaden Smith is one of the best storytellers in the industry right now, and by listening to The Sunset Tapes from beginning to end, I learned so much. The album is becoming known as a “beautiful confusion,” and quite honestly, I couldn’t think of a better way to describe it. Each song, while connected, takes on a different meaning for everyone. For longtime fans, the bold and risqué lyrics are expected, but for new listeners, they could be confusing. My advice is this, listen to each song with a clear mind, after all, music is different for everyone. You will eventually be able to make a connection to your own life, something that will make the song stick with you. Once again, Jaden Smith creates a project that displays his many talents and understanding of the real world. Take a listen and see what you learn.
